Apart from a very scarce shower a dry week if a little chilly at times. Overnight temperatures did drop to 10C. Having had 18 hours off it was back into the Savanah north of Boston running at mostly 110TR with a few popping into B grade. Men and machines ran well and we were even able to recover some peas from our hail damaged crops. This week was Great British Pea Week and on Wednesday a considerable number of journalists, radio and newspaper, visited the field. They had come to see just what goes into producing the humble pea. Anna Hill of the BBC Radio 4 Farming Today programme did an interview with Stuart Ashton of Pinguin and myself. Due to be broadcast next week so listen out. The field visit was followed by lunch cooked by Rachael Green at Elms Farm Cottages which as you can imagine was pea themed! This showed just how versatile the pea is. Huge thanks to the team at Hatch Communications for organising this. Great job well done for the YesPeas! promotion campaign. Back to the harvest, and we were looking to begin the Petit Pois, which we did on Friday. Grades good, yield disappointing. That's what you get when there's no winter, no spring and no summer as yet!
